So You Think You're a Good Citizen

ADVANCE PRAISE

"I've always felt that the political process in this country is better served by more folks engaging in an exchange of ideas based on their merits. We're a country that's too often divided between folks who care passionately and folks who don't care at all, and I'd credit Walter Lamb for his efforts to move more folks into that category that cares. The more we think about decisions that impact our lives on a daily basis the more we see how important it is to stand up and be counted, and the more folks who stand up to be counted the better off we're going to be as a society."
-- Governor Mark Sanford, SC

"Walter Lamb not only makes a compelling case for turning off one's TV so we can concentrate on taking back our country, he also shows how reforms like term limits on elected officials can help us get started."
-- Paul Jacob, Radio Host for Common Sense

"I want to thank Walter for stepping out and sharing his concerns and views on these major topic issues. Hopefully, his book will stimulate and encourage each of us to consider how we feel about these issues and get more involved in the government process. Each person getting involved will help insure that our country remains free and fair to all our citizens."
-- Fred B. Cavanaugh, Jr., Mayor of Aiken, SC

FROM THE AUTHOR

The foreword and the five chapter titles:
1) The Freedom that Education Provides;
2) And Then There Is the Judiciary;
3) The Press Wields a Mighty Sword;
4) Politics, USA Style; and
5) The Keystone of the Republic: The Family,
provide insight into the driving force behind So You Think You're a Good Citizen.
     The areas of concern in each chapter are aligned to show their effects on the family; the family is considered the keystone of our country's future. Unlike a corporation with a well-planned future, we, as a country, show signs of degradation. It will take all of our effort to get our country back on the right track.
     We, the citizens, are responsible for the future of our country.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Walter Lamb is a graduate of McDonogh School, Baltimore, MD, where his first interest in writing was sparked by professors Hall and Kinard. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1955, spent six years in the Navy, then began a career in business, highlighted by his involvement in taking a computer time-sharing company public in 1968. Computer related positions took him from Louisville, KY to Houston, TX. In 1983 in Houston, he entered the brokerage business and remained in that field until retiring from A.G. Edwards as a V.P. in 2001. Retirement took him to Aiken, SC, where a slower pace allowed him time to write several editorials for the Aiken-Standard and
the Augusta Chronicle, as well as to substitute teach for the local school system.
   This combination of military service, entrepreneurship, financial investing, teaching, and the surprising and positive reaction to his articles, provided the concern, the drive and the necessity to write this book.
   Walter and Rusty Lamb have five children and four grandchildren. When not doing things together in Aiken, they enjoy traveling, playing bridge, and reading. Walter is an avid golfer.
